Live Jazz Thursdays

Tonight at the Rex you won’t want to miss Joe Amato’s “Just Another Standards Band” at 9:30 pm. Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by the Justin Bacchus Group and then the Bob Brough Quartet. Saturday it’s David French & Trios followed by the Vaughan Misener Trio at 9:30 pm.

Pianist and vocalist Fern Lindzon is in at the Opal Jazz Lounge until Saturday.

The Pilot has the Jake Wilkinson Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and then it’s the Ernesto Cervini Quartet in Sunday.

Mr. Bill McBirnie let us know that he along with Robi Botos (piano) and Artie Roth (bass) will be performing at The Stonegrill on Winchester for brunch between 12:00 to 3:00 pm.

Tonight at the Rex don’t miss the Nancy Walker Quartet with Kirk MacDonald 9:30 pm. Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by the Justin Bacchus Group and then Kirk MacDonald returns, but this time with his Quartet. Saturday it’s David French & Trios followed by Aubrey Dale’s “MY ID” at 9:30 pm. Sunday Sara Dell warms things up before the Kervin Baretto Quartet take the stage at 9:30 pm.

Pianist Steve Koven is in at the Opal Jazz Lounge until Saturday.

The Pilot has the Kirk MacDonald Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and then it’s the Suger Daddies in Sunday.

Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by the Justin Bacchus Group and then Frank Tiberi who’s in from Boston. Saturday it’s David French & Trios followed by the Rob Campbell Quartet at 9:30 pm.

Pianist and vocalist Alexis Cole is in at the Opal Jazz Lounge with violinist San Murata until Saturday.

The Pilot has Norman Marshall Villenueve in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and then it’s the Andrew Jacob Scott Quartet in Sunday.

Sorry for the unexpected two weeks off from posting, I got a little busy here and had to focus on the work thing for a little. Plenty to see and here this week.

Tonight at the Rex it’s the CD release for the Davidson, Murley & Braid Quintet at 9:30 pm. Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by Lester McLean and then Trish Colter. Saturday it’s the James Brown Duo followed by the Warren Commission at 9:30 pm.

Pianist Norman Amadio is in at the Opal Jazz Lounge with violinist San Murata until Saturday.

The Pilot has the Kevin Turcotte Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and then it’s the Del Dako Quartet in Sunday.

Sunday you can catch the Tara Davidson Quartet at Chalkers Pub from 7:00-10:00 pm.

Pianist Elizabeth Sheperd is in at the Opal Jazz Lounge with Scott Kemp on bass until Saturday.

The Pilot has the Mike Murley Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and then it’s the Kevin Turcotte Quartet in Sunday.

Sunday you can catch the Brandi DisterheftQuartet at Chalkers Pub from 7:00-10:00 pm, or head over to The Cobourg for catch John Alcorn.

International Association for Jazz Education

The 35th annual International Association for Jazz Education Conference is coming to Toronto January 9th to 12th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

What is this you ask? It’s more than 200 clinics, panels and workshops, a huge music expo and daily concerts and appearances from some of the world’s greatest jazz performers including Quincy Jones, Oscar Peterson, Kurt Elling and the Clifford Brown/Stan Getz All-Stars.

Wow, this week went by fast!

Tonight at the Rex it’s the Rich Underhill Quintet CD release at 9:30 pm. Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by Sara Dell, and finally wrapping the night up with the Rosemary Galloway & Jane Fair Quintet at 9:30 pm. The Gale/Rodriguez Group take over Saturday for there CD release, but not before the Mr. Justin Bacchus warms things up from 7pm.

Pianist and vocalist Dave McMurrow is in at the Opal Jazz Lounge until Saturday.

The Pilot has the David Virelles Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and then it’s the PatCarey Quartet in Sunday.

Sunday you can catch the Artie Roth Quartet at Chalkers Pub from 7:00-10:00 pm, or head over to The Cobourg for catch John Alcorn.
