Toronto Jazz Festival announces 2009 line-up

The 23rd edition of the city’s largest music festival has announced it’s lineup, and it’s got something for every musical taste and budget. From Tony Bennett to Dave Holland, and Kool & The Gang to Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings.

Live Jazz Fridays

Tonight at the Rex catch the Hogtwon Syncopators warm up the room before Artie Roth Trio takes the stage followed by Dave Neill at 9:30 pm.

The Pilot has the Dave Young Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm.

At Chalkers Pub tonight and Saturday you can catch the Barry Elmes Quintet from 6:00 pm.

Tonight at the Rex at 6:30 pm you can catch Curtis MacDonald, and a then follow with God’s Gift To Yoda. Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by Sara Dell and then the Bob Brough Quartet featuring Sophia Perlman at 9:30 pm. Saturday Justin Bacchus gets things warmed up before Ernesto Cervini at 9:30 pm.

The Pilot has the Pat Labarbera Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and the Norman Marshall Villenuve Quartet Sunday.

Tonight at The Trane Studio you can catch the Brownman’s Brazilian Electryc Trio at 9:00 pm. Friday don’t miss Eliot Levine with The Sharron McLeod Quintet.

At Gate 403 you can catch Amy Isnor at 9:00 pm, and Friday it’s Elizabeth Shepherd at 9:00 pm.

OK, so I’m sorry for the lack of posts since taking off to attend the Montreal Jazz Festival. I’ll be wriing a follow up in the next couple of days, but in the meantime… it’s that time of the week again!

Tonight at the Rex at 9:30 pm you can catch the Victor Bateman Quartet. Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by Sara Dell and then the Daniel Barnes Quintet at 9:30 pm. Saturday Justin Bacchus gets things warmed up before Vaughan Misener Trio at 9:30 pm.

The Pilot has the Richard Underhill Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and Kollage Sunday.

Tonight at The Trane Studio you can catch Ryan Oliver Quartet at 9:00 pm.

At Gate 403 you can catch the Heidi Lange Jazz Duo at 8:30 pm, and Friday it’s the Peter Bertozzi Trio followed by Max Senitt Latin Band at 9:00 pm.

And finally here is a reason to take a long lunch Monday, Bill McBirnie and his Extreme Flute is performing with Robi Botos (piano) at noon in the Church of the Holy Trinity in Trinity Square (beside the Eaton Centre). How cool is that!

Tonight at the Rex you can catch Joe and Pat LaBarbera at 9:45pm, and at 1:15am Phil Dwyer.

The Pilot has Kollage in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and the Sugar Daddies Sunday.

Friday at The Trane Studio you can catch Michael Occhipinti’s Sicilian Jazz Project at 9:30pm, and SUnday it’s Rich Brown & Rinsethealgorithm.

And finally, tonight at Gate 403 you can catch the Chantelle Wilson Jazz Band at 5:00 pm and String Theory at 9:00pm. Friday it’s the Ventana 5 Jazz Band followed by the Max Senitt Latin Band at 9:00pm.

Friday things get going early with the Hogtown Syncopators followed at 6:30 by the David French and then Kelsley Grant at 9:30 pm. Saturday the Ross MacIntyre Trio gets things going before Jenn Ryan & Cash Cow at 9:30 pm.

The Pilot has the Bob Brough Quartet in Saturday afternoon from 3:30 – 6:30 pm, and the Maurizio Valente Quartet Sunday.

The Soleia Jazz Piano Concert Series is in full swing at The Trane Studio where you can catch Robi Botos tonight at 9:00 pm.

And finally, tonight at Gate 403 you can catch the Sarah Jerrom Jazz Trio at 5:00 pm, and Friday it’s the Mike Field Jazz Duo.
