Tonight and tomorrow at The Rex you can catch the the Dave Smith Quintet in from New York. Saturday it’s Archie Alleyne’s Kollage at 9:30pm.

Vocalist Valeria Matzner is in for the first of three nights at Opal Jazz Lounge.

At Gate 403 tonight you can catch the Buddy Aquilina Duo, Friday it’s the Colin Kingsmore Quartet, and Saturday it’s the Marieve Herrington Quartet in house.

Catch an interview with one of my favorite guitarists… John Abercrombie, whose forthcoming record is The Third Quartet (ECM, 2007). Abercrombie has been on more than 50 ECM recordings as a leader or sideman, including sessions with Charles Lloyd, Kenny Wheeler, Jack DeJohnette, Dave Liebman and Dave Holland. This interview features several excerpts from the new CD in advance of its April 3 release. You’ll also hear Abercrombie’s moving remembrance of lifelong friend Michael Brecker. Tonight and tomorrow at The Rex you can catch the John Geggie Quartet with Donny McCaslin 9:30pm. Saturday it’s Justin Bacchus at 7pm and don’t miss Roberto Occhipinti at 9:30pm.

Guitarist Luis Mario Ochoa is in for the first of three nights at Opal Jazz Lounge.

The Dominion on Queen hosts the Paul DeLong Combo tonight, the Greg Haddow Trio Friday, and the Brownman Electryc Trio Saturday.

A finally, this Saturday catch Kollage from 3:30 – 6:30PM at The Pilot, and follow up Sunday with the Richard Whiteman Qurtet.

Live Jazz Friday

All this miserable weather has put me a day behind, but there is still plenty to see and hear over the next couple of days.

Tonight The Rex presents gets things going early with the Hogtown Syncopators at 4pm, then it’s the Sultans of String followed by Chris Tarry’s Project 33 for the second of a two night visit from New York at 9:30pm. Tomorrow catch Trish Colter Sextet.

Hilario Duran and bassist Roberto Occhipinti are for the second of three nights at Opal Jazz Lounge.

Saturday catch the Dave Restivo Quartet from 3:30 – 6:30PM at The Pilot, and follow up Sunday with Sugar Daddie.

Finally, this Sunday catch David Occhipinti at Chalkers Pub. David will be hosting a seminar between 4:00 – 6:00pm followed by a performance starting at 7:00pm.
