I know this is a little late but I wanted to get something up about these two. The weekend wasn’t very kind to all of us in Jazz land, we lost two that won’t be easily replaced.
Alice Coltrane, the jazz performer and composer who was inextricably linked with the adventurous musical improvisations of her late husband, legendary saxophonist John Coltrane, has died. She was 69.
Coltrane died Friday at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center in West Hills, according to an announcement from the family’s publicist. She had been in frail health for some time and died of respiratory failure. More at allaboutjazz.com
Jazz musician Michael Brecker, who had been ill for some time, has died in New York. A prolific bandleader, teacher and session player, he was 57. More at philly.com
