July once again brings us the Beaches International Jazz Festival held in Toronto’s cool east end. Starting on the 21 with Parti Gras, a celebration of music and culture, the festival continues with Ovation of Jazz, Streetfest and Mainstage events.
Artists include Hilario Durán and his Latin Jazz Big Band, David Buchbinder, Real Divas with the Bill King Sextet, Roberto Occhipinti’s Mambo, David Virelles, and the list goes on.

Tonight at The Rex the Peter Smith Trio is in followed by the Mirobolus Trio at 9:30pm. Thursday brings in Michael Dunston’s Gospel Tribute to Donny Hathaway for a two night run, and Friday check out the York University Jazz Ensemble between 4pm – 6pm.
Don’t miss this one… David Occhipinti & Perry Smith are in this evening at The Red Guitar. The Rob Clutton Band takes over Thursday followed by Marieve Herington’s CD release at 9:30pm. Saturday the Steve Koven Trio is in house, and followed by Rosemary Galloway Quartet Sunday.
Gate 403 has Michael Boguski & Dan Fort in from 6 – 8pm tonight. The Hogtown Syncopators Band take over Thursday, and Friday brings in the Ian Lazarus Jazz Trio. Saturday the Gate 403 goes Latin withAmamda Martinez.

The 2006 Markham Jazz Festival runs from Thursday, August 17, to Sunday, August 20. Most festival events take place in the historic Village of Unionville, just twenty minutes north of downtown Toronto. The “Main Stage” events are located at the Millennium Bandstand on Unionville Village’s Main Street, where the festival offers a free four-day event of superb jazz.
The lineup for this year’s event has been announced, check it out at markhamjazzfestival.com.
Due to the closing of the Montreal Bistro last week, the Thursday, July 12th concert by Nehring, Koller and Braid originally set for the Bistro has been moved to a new venue.
It will be held on the same day at The Long and McQuade store at 925 Bloor Street West, Toronto 8 to 10 PM.
Long and McQuade is one black west of Bloor and Ossington on the south side of Bloor. The concert space is on the second floor of the keyboard building (west building). There is a $10 cover.
