Well I’m still coming down from the high that was the Art of Jazz Celebration, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t alot of great live jazz to check out this week.
The Hogtown Syncopators are in tonight at The Red Guitar at 7pm, followed by the Chris Gale Trio at 9:30pm. Thursday has the Andrew Downing Trio, followed up by Canadian jazz bass legend Dave Young with Andy Ballantyne on saxophone and Robbie Botos on piano rounding out his trio. They will be focusing on the music of bassist Charles Mingus.
The Dave Young Trio are in again Friday, and then the Tim Posgate Quartet featuring Don Thompson take centre stage Saturday.
The Rex boasts the Terry King Quintet in from New York tonight, and tomorrow the Project Jazz finalists take the stage as they compete for the $15,000 Grand Prize.
The Robert Fekete Quintet hosts it’s CD Release tonight at The Montreal Bistro. Thursday sees Lori Cullen Quintet and special guest Kurt Swinghammer take the stage for a three night stay, which takes us to Monday when Jackie Richardson & Carol McCartney with the Dave Young Quartet for an evening featuring not one but two great vocalists.
Cheers!
