Well here’s some good news. Toronto has a new education and advocacy group, the ”Art of Jazz”. Further, the group has announced its festival event the ”Art of Jazz Celebration” will be held in Toronto May 17 – 21, 2006.
Founded by a group of jazz musicians and educators, the not for profit organization will will present an annual 5 day event, paying tribute to Canadian and International Jazz Masters. The 2006 event will honour the great bebop pianist Barry Harris, and Canadian multi-instrumentalist Don Thompson.
The Vinson Valega Trio rolls in tonight (wednesday) from New York for a stop at the Dominion on Queen. Can’t make it out tonight? Have no fear. They play a second show Saturday at The Red Guitar.
Over at the Montreal Bistro Thusday the scene will be Juno rich as Hilario Duran starts a three night stay featuring Roberto Occhipinti and Mark Kelso. More info at montrealbistro.com

JAZZ.FM91 will relocate to contemporary new premises in downtown Toronto when the radio station moves its operations at the end of this month to street front facilities on Pardee Avenue in the King & Dufferin area known as Liberty Village. Today’s announcement came from Bernard Webber, long-time Chairman of JAZZ.FM91’s board of directors who said the move culminates nearly 14 years during which JAZZ.FM91 has broadcast from the Ryerson University building it currently occupies at 150 Mutual Street.
